In a resolute display of dissent, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a formidable protest on Friday at the Civic Center, denouncing the cancellation of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s mayoral election. AAP councilors, positioned prominently in front of a statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, voiced their vehement opposition against the BJP and LG, for their ‘anti-Dalit’ actions. With assertions of constitutional infringement, the AAP emphasizes that BJP and LG revoked the election upon a Dalit individual’s ascension to the Mayorship, inciting widespread fury among Delhi’s populace. Now, poised for legal recourse, the AAP aims to bring this serious issue before the judiciary for resolution.
Regarding the cancellation of the MCD mayor election, Senior AAP Leader and MCD incharge Shri Durgesh Pathak questioned the BJP and Lieutenant Governor (LG) and BJP’s intention. He asked, “The BJP’s LG should have taken the recommendation from the CM, who has stopped him from taking the recommendation? The CM could have appointed a minister and he would have given the recommendation to the LG. But LG’s intentions were already bad. The LG did not send the file of the mayoral election to the minister.
“The BJP’s LG sent the file to the Chief Secretary through the Secretary of the Urban Development Department and the Chief Secretary sent the file directly to the LG. The LG did not even try to get the minister’s recommendation on the file. It is clear from this that the BJP and LG had already made a complete plan not to conduct the mayoral election. Because the BJP and LG do not believe in the Constitution of India, they do not believe in the Constitution made by Baba Saheb,” the AAP MCD incharge added.
“The BJP and LG do not want a Dalit to become the mayor of Delhi. Whereas the post of Mayor of Delhi is reserved for a Dalit candidate for one year. The BJP and LG do not want to give this right to the Dalit community. After canceling the election, BJP and LG have been completely exposed. Their anti-Dalit and anti-constitution face has come out completely. AAP can also approach the court to conduct the mayoral election. We will make it a big issue, because the people of Delhi are very angry about the cancellation of the mayoral election. The BJP people threaten to change the constitution every day, and are also changing the constitution. That is why the people of the country are now fed up with the BJP,” Shri Durgesh Pathak concluded.
BJP councilors danced in joy of after Dalit mayor not being elected
Elections for Mayor-Deputy Mayor were to be held in MCD on Friday. This time the term of Mayor was reserved for Dalit community, but the LG did not allow the elections to be held. When BJP councilors reached the MCD House on Friday morning, the joy of no elections was clearly visible on their faces. BJP councilors played a song and danced to it and celebrated the Dalit mayor not being elected. AAP has strongly condemned this behavior of BJP councilors. AAP says that BJP celebrated by killing democracy and constitution. BJP councilors started dancing in the MCD House after preventing a Dalit’s son from becoming the mayor. Today again the people of the country saw this disgusting face of BJP.
