Negating their own claims that all medical facilities are available where Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal has been incarcerated, the Tihar jail authorities have asked for a diabetologist from the AIIMS for his treatment, said senior AAP leader Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj.
Senior AAP leader and Delhi Health Minister Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj also produced before the media a letter dated April 20 written by the Director General of Prisons, Tihar to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi requisitioning a diabetologist.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal was in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody from March 21 to March 31 and he was sent to Tihar jail on April 1.
Addressing media persons here today, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said for the last three-four days you have seen that there has been a debate, which has two sides. One side is the side of Arvind Kejriwal, the side of the Aam Aadmi Party. Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj quoted Shri Arvind Kejriwal: ‘I have diabetes for 20 to 22 years, I have been on insulin for 12 years, I take 50 units of insulin daily. If the sugar level of a patient taking insulin increases, it can be controlled only with insulin. I repeatedly said that I have to see a sugar specialist (diabetologist), but I am not being given consultation. I said I need insulin; I am not being given insulin. I said if you cannot provide a doctor, allow me consultation of my private doctor through video conferencing, that is, through mobile phone’.
Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said this is one side of the story which the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Central Government has been objecting to by saying, “No, they will not allow this to happen.”
The AAP senior leader said the other side is of the story is that of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s central government and Tihar Jail administration. They say, ‘No, his sugar has not increased, he is absolutely normal. When we have a doctor, then what is the need to see a doctor (diabetologist). He doesn’t need insulin at all, we will give him insulin whenever he needs it’. These are two sides, added the Delhi Health Minister.
Showing the letter written by the DG, Tihar to the AIIMS yesterday, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Today I am going to show you such an evidence _ to the whole world because today many friends of international media are also seeing it _ that how the central government of the Bharatiya Janata Party is conspiring to murder the elected Chief Minister. They are saying that we have doctors and specialists who are examining him, what is the problem with Arvind Kejriwal ji. I am showing you this is yesterday’s letter. The DG of Tihar Jail has written to AIIMS yesterday, that is, on 20th April and said that a diabetologist should be given to us. Today, the central government of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been exposed in front of everyone. Till yesterday these people were saying that we have all the specialists, hospital, clinic, insulin, everything is available in the jail; Arvind Kejriwal is lying. Yesterday the DG of Tihar Jail said that Arvind Kejriwal is with him for 20 days, he is a Chief Minister, he is a severe diabetic and is saying every day to show him to a diabetologist, I need insulin. An ordinary doctor, I don’t know who he is and in what manner he is in jail, there all the manipulation is being done at his behest and an elected Chief Minister is not being given medicine,” said the senior AAP leader.
Objecting to the deviation from the standard practice of monitoring blood sugar levels of fasting and post prandial by relying on readings of random sugar levels, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “I also saw yesterday’s report. In Delhi, in every family in the country, I believe that there will be an elderly person who will have severe diabetes and I think that there will be crores of people in the country who will be on insulin, whose sugar is controlled only by insulin. Whenever you talk about monitoring the sugar of a diabetic patient, what do you monitor? You say how much is your fasting sugar, that is, you wake up in the morning and measure your sugar level. Then, you eat breakfast _ it is obvious that after having breakfast, sugar will increase _ and after 2 hours, it is measured that how much your sugar has become, how much hormone (insulin) is your body producing, what is the sugar level. If you eat lunch, you will see what the sugar level is now and if you eat dinner, after 2 hours you will see what the sugar level is. This is a standard method, a global method, it cannot be changed. Now see the trickery and conspiracy of the central government of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Which sugar reading is given in the report, which is a bundle of lies, given to the media yesterday, it is random sugar. There is no sugar in it after 2 hours of eating, nor is there sugar during fasting.”
The senior AAP leader said if a diabetic patient measures his sugar, his sugar is increasing very fast and decreasing very fast. That is why if a sugar patient is severely diabetic, then he roams around with glucose, toffee or any other sweet in his pocket. Many times, you must have seen that when a diabetic patient becomes unconscious, people say give him sugar water or glucose so that he can recover. If his sugar level comes up, then he can survive otherwise he will die. “The sugar level of a diabetic patient drops drastically, just as the Chief Minister’s sugar level had reached 46 while he was in ED custody. So, when your doctor is giving random sugar reading in the report, then this is the reading when his sugar has decreased. So, by quoting that you are not giving medicine to a Chief Minister. You say, the report given by Arvind Kejriwal is false, you cannot say because the report given by Arvind Kejriwal, which we put in the media yesterday, is recorded in his glucometer. The entire 20 days’ recording is recorded in it, every hour is recorded in it. When his sugar level fell, it was fraudulently written as Sugar Random. So that their increased sugar can be hidden,” he said.
Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said why does the BJP-ruled central government want to hide his high sugar, so that his medicine is not given? “And why does it not want to give medicine, because they want Arvind Kejriwal’s sugar to remain high, so that he is not given insulin. And such an atmosphere should be created on TV with sophistry that Arvind Kejriwal’s vital organs, kidneys, retina, all get permanently and irreversibly damaged,” he said.
Referring to the complications caused by prolonged high blood sugar, the senior AAP leader said if you go to hospitals, you will find many kidney patients who are on dialysis, you will find many people whose kidneys failed, and they passed away. You will find many people whose liver failed and died and if you inquire about them, the doctor will tell you that the sugar was very high, they did not undergo treatment for high sugar either because financial reasons or due to negligence. And because of this his kidneys got damaged, his liver got damaged, his heart got damaged, he lost his eyesight. This is a very common thing; it does not happen under any exceptional circumstances. If diabetes continues to be severe, then it will have normal effects, he added.
Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said I believe that the central government is conspiring to murder Arvind Kejriwal ji in front of everyone. “And Arvind Kejriwal is knocking on every door, be it the door of the doctor of Tihar Jail, the door of the DG there, the door of the Central Government or the door of the court. He is pleading give me medicine otherwise I would die,” said the senior AAP leader.
