In a significant setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), their attempts to disrupt the Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections faced a major blow on Saturday. With the Congress party throwing its weight behind Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates this time around, the political landscape has shifted. Expressing gratitude for Congress’s support, MCD in-charge Shri Durgesh Pathak affirmed AAP’s confidence in securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections. Shri Durgesh Pathak emphasized a united front against corruption and authoritarianism, recalling BJP’s past attempts of electoral manipulation met with defeat. As AAP and Congress join forces, BJP’s hopes for victory seem increasingly dim, marking another potential electoral setback for the party.
Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and MCD in-charge Shri Durgesh Pathak said in a press conference at the party headquarters that today the country is going through a very difficult situation. Today, when the BJP leaders are appealing for votes, they are openly saying that if you vote for us, we will change the constitution. The constitution which was created under the leadership of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the constitution which was drafted for over 2 years, each and every clause was discussed and pondered over for days. Today, the BJP is demanding votes to change that very Constitution. The Constitution which gave rights to the women of this country, the constitution which has given the right to equality to the backward castes, so that they can equally live, struggle, and demand their rights. The BJP is trying to change that Constitution today. Every person in the country who loves the country is coming forward to oppose this.
“The same BJP which was talking about 300-400 seats 3 months ago, today surveys and TV channels are showing that even if they get 150-200 seats, it will be a big deal. The media journalists who could never question them, are questioning these leaders today, and BJP leaders have no answers to their questions. People who love this country, love the Constitution, are fighting on the front, they are struggling against this dictatorship of the BJP,” the AAP leader said.
Shri Durgesh Pathak further added that the next 26th will be the election of mayor or deputy mayor of MCD. Today, the Congress party has announced that it will support the AAP candidate. “We sincerely welcome their support. This support shows that the INDIA Alliance will together defeat the BJP’s dictatorial and corrupt government. The BJP’s corrupt government is so shameless, so ruthless, that it takes ₹60 crores from a person (Sarath Reddy) and makes him an approver. Solely based on the testimony of this approver, Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested. In the similar way, they make another person a witness and then give him a ticket from their party (Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy). The INDIA Alliance is fighting against such powers. The people of the entire country are coming together to stand against the BJP and oppose their dictator rule,” he affirmed.
“On the coming 26th, the AAP, together with the Congress Party, will together show their support for the AAP candidates in the MCD Mayoral elections. We are confident that we will win with a huge majority. You must have seen in the previous Mayoral elections how the BJP committed hooliganism and yet the BJP lost badly, and this time too they will lose by a huge majority. The only aim is that the country should develop, Delhi should develop. I am thankful to all the people who have gathered together to save the country, to fight against the dictators, and to save the Constitution of the country. Thanks to all those people who are contributing at their respective levels in saving this country and the Constitution,” Shri Durgesh Pathak concluded.
