Drawing parallels with the British rule under which freedom fighters were denied food and medicines in jail, senior AAP leader Ms. Atishi said the present regime is torturing Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who is a severe diabetic, by not providing him insulin and other medicines.
Addressing a press conference here today, senior AAP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Ms Atishi said this would be the first time in the history of independent India that a person in judicial custody (jail) is being prevented from taking his medicines. This person is not a gangster, not a terrorist, not a murderer, not a robber. This person is the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, who was elected three times with an overwhelming majority in Delhi.
The senior AAP leader said everyone knows that Arvind Kejriwal has been suffering from diabetes for 30 years, his doctor has written that earlier he used to give 54 units of insulin. But today the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are conspiring against Arvind Kejriwal, stopping his medicines, and refusing to give him insulin. This would never have happened in the history of independent India. Whenever an ordinary prisoner falls ill, the medicines prescribed by his doctor are given to the prisoner. But today Arvind Kejriwal is being refused his insulin inside Tihar Jail. The Tihar administration, the ED, the entire central government came to the court and opposed Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal for insulin. Let the Bharatiya Janata Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji tell, if Arvind Kejriwal ji applied for getting his insulin, his medicine, then why was the central government, the ED, the Tihar administration opposing it? Such things were heard before India’s independence.
Reminding of the British atrocities on the freedom fighters in the jails, Ms Atishi said, “Everyone would know that it was for this very reason that Bhagat Singh went on a hunger strike in the jail in 1929 when the prisoners were being tortured. Because at that time the British used to torture the Indian freedom fighters, did not give them proper food, did not give them medicines, to break their morale and spoil their health. And today, after 75 years of India’s independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing the same thing that the British did during their rule, that is, they are not allowing their opponents to get proper food in jail, and they are not allowing them to get medicines.”
The senior AAP leader said this is a conspiracy to stop the medicines of Arvind Kejriwal ji. How big a conspiracy this is can be ascertained from many facts, she added.
Showing the hard copy of the email to reporters, Ms Atishi said first, this is an email, which ED filed in the court. This email was sent from the Tihar administration to the ED. “In this email sent by the Tihar administration, all the details of what Arvind Kejriwal ji ate, what he drank, what time he ate, all these details are mentioned. I want to know under which legal provision has the Tihar administration sent all these details to the ED? When a person is in judicial custody, he is in the custody of the court. If Tihar administration has to send anything, then they should send it to the court, why are they sending it to the ED?” she reasoned.
Questioning the rationale behind sharing health details of Shri Arvind Kejriwal by the Tihar administration with the ED, the senior AAP leader said the only work of the ED is to investigate money laundering. “Was ED investigating whether the Aam Aadmi Party had mixed cash in Arvind Kejriwal’s bread, had put Rs 45 crore instead of sweetener in Arvind Kejriwal’s tea. Was ED investigating this? Why were the details of Arvind Kejriwal’s diet and medical conditions sent to the ED? Under what circumstances did the ED file all these medical details in the court? Because the Enforcement Directorate works like a subsidiary organization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and of the Bharatiya Janata Party. This agency is their political weapon and the complete details of Arvind Kejriwal’s health were given to the ED illegally,” she said.
Ms. Atishi said secondly, in this conspiracy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only involved ED but also Delhi LG Vinay Saxena and through him the Tihar administration. Giving details of the two lawyers who opposed Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s application for insulin in court today, the senior AAP leader said, “Two lawyers came, one’s name is Mr. Yogendra Handoo, the other’s name is Ms. Bani Dixit ji and I am showing you an order that these two people who were appearing on behalf of the Tihar administration. They are the special counsels of the LG office, who were appointed by order of 14 December 2023 to represent the LG office in the court. This means that there are special lawyers of LG Saab who represent LG Saab in the court in his personal matters and also in his government matters. LG Saab sent those lawyers to oppose Arvind Kejriwal ji’s medicine, insulin,” she said.
Ms Atishi said so, all the facts clearly show that a huge conspiracy is going on to stop Arvind Kejriwal ji’s insulin, medicine. “It (the conspiracy) is being run by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government in the same way as the British used to torture the freedom fighters after imprisoning them, harass them; did not give them food, medicine. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying out the same conspiracy against Arvind Kejriwal ji,” she said.
