Delhi’s Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Shri Imran Husain conducted a review meeting with the Controller Weights & Measures/Legal Metrology Department along with officers regarding functioning of the Department to ensure accurate quantities of various commodities for getting value of money to the consumers.
During the meeting, Consumer Affairs Minister Shri Imran Hussain was apprised by the Weights and Measures Department that the newly built office complex of Legal Metrology Department Vishwas Nagar, Delhi will be completed in the month of February 2024. The new office complex will have three zonal offices of the L&M department including six working standard laboratories, one secondary laboratory, one taxi meter unit and also the office of controller, weights and measures. The Minister expressed confidence that it will bring relief to people of Delhi especially those living in East and North East Delhi as the applicants will save a lot of time and effort in getting the necessary verification, stamping and calibration devices done for calibration of the weights and measuring instruments/devices.
During the meeting, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister reviewed the report issued by various Zonal Offices. The Minister directed the L & M Department to ensure proper check of the accuracy of a weighing instrument before stamping of the weighing machine.
The Minister also expressed that, it has also come to notice that employees are not attending the office on time. Department must ensure the attendance of their subordinate employees from time to time so that there should be transparency in the work. Strict action will be taken against the officers and employees who do not reach the offices on time and no kind of negligence will be tolerated.
Minister Shri Imran Hussain directed the Controller (L&M) to ensure the norms of Packaged Commodity Rules are strictly being followed by the shopkeepers/manufacturers/dealers. The Department will also ensure that only verified/stamped, electronic/manual weighing instruments are being used by the establishments.
The Minister said that during the surprise visit at Zonal Offices of Weights and Measurement Department it has been observed the measuring instrument /Testing Unit/Calibration unit in the Laboratory were not maintained properly which is primarily meant to be open for calibrating the instruments.
Minister Shri Imran Hussain expressed his concern about various operational and proper maintenance of the weight measuring units which are kept in the Weights & Measures / Legal Metrology Department. The Minister said that he will inspect all the weights & Measurement offices and laboratories very soon.
The Minister also instructed the Weights & Measurement Department for advance training of the newly recruited officers at the Ballabgarh RRSL So those officers can be more efficient in utilization of measuring and weighing units.
