In a significant move to enhance accessibility for lawyers and streamline court commutes, the Kejriwal Government is set to launch a dedicated bus service connecting key legal hubs in the capital. The service, slated to commence tomorrow, will facilitate seamless travel from Supreme Court to Patiala House Court, encompassing stops at the Delhi High Court. The dedicated fully Air Conditioned electric buses by Delhi Government will start at 7Am in morning to 11PM in evening everyday. The onboard fare will be Rs. 15 only. Any passenger including general public can avail the service.

This initiative comes to fruition after a meeting in August 2023, where a group of lawyers presented a representation to Transport Minister Shri Kailash Gahlot. Their request was for a specialized bus route with minimal stops, aiming to efficiently link all courts in Delhi.

Transport Minister Gahlot expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Direct bus routes would significantly reduce travel time for individuals visiting different courts, allowing them to spend more time on legal proceedings and other important matters. Also, promoting the use of public transport can help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce pollution levels in our city.”

Acknowledging Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s commitment to the legal fraternity, Gahlot extended his gratitude, saying, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Government is committed to working for the welfare of advocates. I thank Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal for providing support to the legal fraternity and wish all Advocates the very best in their professional endeavors.”

Furthermore, the Delhi Government, recognizing the vital role played by advocates in society, had announced the Chief Minister Advocates’ Welfare Scheme in December 2019. This scheme encompasses Group (Life) Insurance, offering a life cover of Rs. 10 Lakhs per advocate. It also includes Group Mediclaim coverage for the advocate, their spouse, and two dependent children up to the age of 25 years, with a family floater sum insured of Rs. 5 Lakhs.
