School Management Committees (SMCs) of Delhi, regarded as the pillars of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Education Revolution, would be recognised as ‘Govt School with Best SMC’ Awards under its Annual Excellence in Education Awards.
This year, the Kejriwal Government has taken a key policy decision to integrate these awards with the Annual ‘Excellence in Education’ awards, so that best SMCs are recognised every year at district and state level.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the Kejriwal government to foster world-class education and highlights the pivotal role played by SMCs in transformation of more than a 1000 Delhi Govt schools, into world-class institutions.
The deadline for applications by the schools is 2nd January 2024, to be made through the Head of School. The application is to be verified by the Chairperson and Vice-chairperson of the SMC, post which it will be sent to the District Level Committee for further evaluation. They would be assessed based on their performance in the academic session 2022-23.
Education Minister Atishi, sharing the vision behind the Awards and the key policy decision by the Kejriwal Government, said “SMCs have worked tirelessly with schools to enhance the parental participation over the years. Delhi SMCs are perhaps the only one in any state that Is truly the voice of parents. Their dedication is invaluable in shaping the future of education in Delhi, and our SMCs must continue striving to take their schools to the top.”
The evaluation criteria for Delhi’s SMCs is as per their roles in Govt schools. Namely, Student attendance, judicious use of funds, counseling services, making school a safe space, and active participation in community service are key aspects considered in recognizing the efforts of these committees and selecting the best SMC at district and state level.
Education Minister Atishi said “SMCs raise the benchmark of what Delhi Govt schools can offer to our kids. They are instrumental in setting higher standards for education, ensuring that our schools provide the best possible learning environment. Even during COVID, their selfless effort allowed us to ensure that children continue to learn during the lockdown. These awards are a recognition to this dedication and hard work.”
It is noteworthy that SMCs have expanded and organised themselves significantly over past years, through the joint efforts of the school administration and parents. Today, Delhi’s 1000+ state govt schools have 16,000+ active SMC members AND 18,000+ active School Mitras working with them.
