Delhi Government, under the leadership of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, has girded up its loins for a successful hosting of G20 summit. Towards this, Delhi’s Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj convened a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to take stock of healthcare arrangements in lieu of the G-20 Summit scheduled in Delhi from September 8. The meeting was attended by the Health Secretary; Special Secretary, DHS; Director General, Health Services; Medical Director, Lok Nayak Hospital; Medical Director, GTB Hospital; Medical Director, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital; Medical Director, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital; Medical Superintendent, Nursing Homes DHS (HQ); In-charge, Disaster Management Cell DHS (HQ); among other high-ranking health officials.
Chief Minister Kejriwal Extremely Serious About G-20 Summit
Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal is paying utmost attention towards the successful hosting of the G-20 Summit set to take place in Delhi from September 8. In this context, under his direction, Health Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the Delhi Secretariat with top officials from the Health Department. In the meeting, Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj reviewed the preparations made by the Delhi Health Ministry for the G-20 Summit. Alongside health department officials, senior officers from various major hospitals in Delhi were also present. As known, the upcoming G-20 Summit scheduled from September 8, 2023, in Delhi has led to intense preparations across the city. All departments of the Delhi government, directly or indirectly involved, are diligently fulfilling their responsibilities at a war footing level. Delhi CM is highly committed to ensuring the success of this summit and has put all departments on high alert. Stringent monitoring is being carried out to prevent any kind of negligence in the context of the G-20 Summit. During the meeting, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj issued directives to all present officials to avoid any kind of negligence and indicated zero tolerance for any oversight.
5 Government and 3 Private Hospitals in Delhi on High Alert
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “In light of the G-20 Summit, the Delhi government has placed five major government hospitals and three private hospitals on high alert to ensure the healthcare arrangements are in place. These include primarily Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, GTB Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, along with Primus Hospital Chanakyapuri, Max Hospital Saket, and Manipal Hospital Dwarka.” Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj explained that Lok Nayak Hospital has reserved 20 rooms, GB Pant Hospital has reserved 10 rooms, GTB Hospital has reserved 20 beds, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital has reserved 65 beds, and Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital has reserved 40 beds for addressing any situation that may arise during the G-20 Summit. He mentioned that while this preparation is based on priority, all hospitals are also on alert in case any need arises.
Formation of 80 Teams of Doctors and Nursing Staff
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj stated that as known, arrangements have been made for foreign guests coming for the G-20 Summit to stay in various hotels across Delhi. Keeping this arrangement in mind, the Delhi Health Ministry has formed 80 teams of doctors and nursing staff. These teams will serve all guests in these 25 hotels. Out of these 80 teams, 75 teams will work in shifts. Each hotel has been assigned three teams, each working in eight-hour shifts. These teams will remain dedicated to serving our incoming guests 24/7 according to their respective time schedules. Additionally, five backup teams have been kept in reserve. If any difficulty arises or if any doctor or nursing staff is unavailable for any reason in any team, the doctors and nursing staff from these five backup teams will be deployed. Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj emphasized that there will be no compromise in the healthcare arrangements for our foreign guests.
All Services Provided by 106 Ambulances on 24-Hour Alert
The Health Minister highlighted that not only hospitals and medical teams have been prepared for the health arrangements of incoming foreign guests for the G-20 Summit, but also a total of 106 fully-equipped ambulances have been readied with all advanced facilities. These 106 ambulances will remain on 24-hour high alert. In case of any medical emergency, as soon as the information is received, these ambulances will promptly transport the patient to the hospital. Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj explained that all the necessary facilities that could immediately save a patient’s life are available in these ambulances. Not only for general patients but also for heart attack patients, these ambulances will serve by providing necessary medical aid, ensuring that the patient reaches the hospital in time.
30 Anesthesia Specialists also Deployed in the Healthcare System
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj shared that in addition to these healthcare arrangements, a special provision has been made. He noted that often a situation arises where immediate treatment through a specific operation becomes necessary to effectively address a patient’s condition. In such situations, administering anesthesia becomes crucial to render the patient unconscious for the procedure. Therefore, the requirement of a specialized anesthesia specialist becomes essential. He explained that to manage such situations effectively, Delhi’s Health Department has placed 30 anesthesia specialists on 24-hour high alert. These specialists will be available throughout the G-20 Summit to promptly attend to any medical emergencies. This proactive measure aims to ensure timely treatment without any complications due to the unavailability of anesthesia specialists.
Three Major Private Hospitals also on High Alert
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj stated that in addition to making accommodation arrangements for foreign tourists in 25 hotels, government hospitals as well as three private hospitals in Delhi have also been placed on high alert. These private hospitals include Primus Hospital in Chanakyapuri, Max Hospital located in Saket, and Manipal Hospital in Dwarka. Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj mentioned that these private hospitals have been selected based on their proximity to the hotels where the foreign guests are staying. He emphasized that if a situation arises where immediate hospitalization is necessary and it could pose a risk to transport the patient to more distant hospitals, then these nearby private hospitals will be immediately utilized. He assured that the health of the incoming foreign guests is the responsibility of the Delhi government, and they are committed to fulfilling this responsibility without any shortcomings.
The Health Minister emphasized that India has been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing the G-20 Summit this time. It is a matter of great privilege for the entire nation. Additionally, since the G-20 Summit is being held in the capital city of Delhi, it is an even greater privilege. He reiterated the sentiments expressed by CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, that the G-20 Summit is a matter of pride for India and they are determined to maintain and uphold this pride. In this context, a meeting was held with the health department, as with all other departments in Delhi, to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place. He stated that the health department has made all the required preparations. He expressed hope that there won’t be any issues or challenges during the G-20 Summit.
