Education Minister Atishi inspected the Jija-bai Women’s ITI (Industrial Training Institute). The Minister examined facilities such as the Fashion Design and Technology Lab, Textile Designing Lab, Hospitality Management Lab, and Information and Technology Lab. Additionally, she interacted with the students and discussed the range of courses available at the institute.
On this occasion, the Technical Education Minister Atishi said, “Students who are receiving training from the ITIs under the Kejriwal government will script a new chapter in the future.” She emphasized that our country will only become developed when every youth in the country is skilled. Therefore, alongside obtaining degrees, the youth must also become skilled.
The Technical Education Minister added that women’s participation in technical education is a positive step towards making them economically independent and self-reliant. She expressed her delight in observing that the sector which was once considered exclusively for men is now witnessing remarkable participation of female students, showcasing their talents. However, there is a need to further increase the participation of female students in our ITIs.
The Technical Education Minister directed officials to design outreach plans for the upcoming session and visit Delhi government schools to educate students about the modern courses offered by ITIs. She pointed out the lower participation of women in both technical education and technical professions compared to men. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the enrollment of girls in these institutions.
It’s worth mentioning that the common perception is that skill courses are expensive, leading many girls to not enroll in them. However, the Kejriwal government provides free skill education to girls in its ITIs.
Furthermore, the Technical Education Minister directed that ITIs should be further connected with industries so that our students can gain better exposure and the market can be supplied with skilled individuals equipped with 21st-century skills.
Over the past few years, the Kejriwal government’s ITIs have introduced many modern courses based on industry and market needs. These courses are equipping students with essential 21st-century skills and bridging the gap between learning and industry demands. Additionally, the government is actively establishing partnerships with various industries for knowledge sharing.
During the interaction, students shared that their ITI courses have given them more confidence than their 11th-12th or graduation studies. They mentioned that when they were in 11th-12th grade, they lacked self-confidence and clarity about their future. However, since joining the ITI, they have gained a clearer vision of their future and their self-confidence has increased.
It is to be noted that students who have completed ITI courses under the Kejriwal government’s Skill University receive recognition equivalent to 11th-12th standard. This allows them to directly enroll in degree or diploma courses, dispelling their fear of the consequences of choosing ITIs immediately after 10th grade. Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University has taken steps to alleviate this fear among ITI students.
