Health Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj, following Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s instructions, made a surprise visit to the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital on Thursday. On this occasion, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj announced that the Kejriwal government would soon gift a new hospital to the people of East Delhi, as the construction of the new Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital building nears completion. He interacted with patients at IHBAS, inquiring about their health and closely examining the facilities. The Health Minister directed the hospital administration to ensure affordable and quality healthcare to patients, giving priority to those with severe conditions.
During the inspection at IHBAS, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj assessed various facilities, including emergency services (psychiatry and neurology), neuro-imaging services (CT scan), neurology ward, and ICU. Patient satisfaction was evident, with no grievances reported. Additionally, the Health Minister took steps to address the issue of touts exploiting patients for money. He personally interacted with people in the queue and those admitted to the hospital. He encouraged patients to report any attempts to deceive or financially exploit them, promising swift action against culprits. Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj highlighted the Delhi government’s commitment to supporting the institute’s development and reiterated that they would not tolerate any negligence in healthcare provision to the public.
In a move to improve convenience at Ihbas, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj instructed the construction of a new OPD building within the hospital premises. This measure aimed to cater to the increasing number of patients seeking treatment from various states, reducing waiting times and long queues at the OPD counters.
One individual, who had brought his brother from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, for psychiatric treatment, praised the arrangements at Ihbas. He mentioned that no recommendations were necessary, and the Delhi government provided excellent facilities, including free medicines and nutritious food, along with competent medical care.
Subsequently, Health Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj inspected the new building of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and urged officials to expedite the remaining work. The new hospital, once completed, will feature an ICU with a capacity of 1912 beds, which can be converted into a regular hospital when the need for dedicated ICU beds diminishes. Various diagnostic facilities, including operation theaters and an OPD hall, will be available to the public, benefitting the people of East Delhi. MLA Shri Rajendra Pal Gautam congratulated the area’s residents, acknowledging the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj in providing top-notch healthcare facilities. The completion of this hospital will be a significant achievement for the people of Yamunapar.
