The erstwhile RMR employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have expressed their gratitude towards their MLA and Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal for his relentless efforts in getting them regularised. The employees expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the CM’s unwavering support in getting them regularised in a program organised in the New Delhi constituency today. The employees had been working on a contractual basis for several years and had been hoping for our regularisation for a long time.
In 2014, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal helped TMR employees get RMR status, and in 2018, the NDMC Council Meeting passed a proposal under his leadership to regularise them. However, the Central Government did not approve the proposal for five years. But, as promised, the CM kept trying to get the approval at all costs. He met the Union Home Minister several times and wrote letters to the Centre, and finally, this year, he received a letter from the Centre that RMR employees have been regularised.
The NDMC under the leadership of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who is an ex-officio member of the council, had passed a proposal to regularise these jobs in 2018, and a proposal was sent to the Union Home Ministry. Writing three letters to the Union Home Minister over the issue, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal had requested to clear the file. Along with this, he also met the Union Home Minister in this regard. However, it was only in February this year that the Union Home Minister wrote a letter to CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal informing him about the regularisation of the employees.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal was warmly welcomed by the NDMC employees. The CM addressed them in an event that was organised to thank him for his efforts. Speaking at the occasion, he said that he remembered the time when AAP was a newly formed political party in November 2012 and it fought the elections for the first time in 2013. He said that he fought from the New Delhi constituency for the first time that year and prior to him it was the former Delhi CM Smt Sheila Dikshit who fought the election from this constituency.
He reminisced that when he was campaigning in the constituency at the time he was informed by the employees that for several years they had been working as a Temporary Muster Roll (TMR). He said that the employees told him that in TMR, they are employed for some time in the year and do not get work throughout the year. He said that the demand of the employees at the time was that if AAP goes on to form the government in Delhi, they should support the employees to make them RMR.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that at the time AAP was a very small party, but since they were a group of people working in the right direction, the Gods supported it and eventually AAP went on to form the government in Delhi. He reminded the people that AAP won 28 seats in that first government and it went on to be a part of the government for 49 days. He highlighted that even in such a short span of time, all the TMRs were converted to RMRs. “The work that the other political parties did not get done in 15-20 years, we got it done within a matter of days,” he said.
He said that after some time, those who were RMRs wanted to become permanent employees and in an NDMC meeting in 2018, Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that he proposed a resolution regarding this issue and got it done. “However, the proposal was forwarded to the MHA in 2018 and the Central Government sat over the matter for five long years. But I did not give up,” he said.
He highlighted that at the time Shri Rajnath Singh was the Union Home Minister and he visited his office several times regarding this matter. Shri Arvind Kejriwal added that in 2019, Shri Amit Shah became the Union Home Minister and he went and met him as well and wrote several letters to his office urging them to make the RMRs into permanent employees.
He said that with the support of the people and the grace of God, finally in February this year, the RMRs were made into permanent employees. The Delhi CM congratulated the people for this achievement and said that he wished that they always do well in life and that their children also go on to prosper in their careers. “I was very happy when the letter from the MHA came in February this year. Even at that time I had written a letter to Shri Amit Shah’s office and it was in response to that letter that he informed me that just a day ago, he had issued orders for the RMRs to be made permanent employees,” he said.
He further added that with this decision at least 4500 families here will go on to benefit. He concluded by saying, “I am always there for the people of this constituency and whenever you need anything, please do not hesitate to approach me. Some families over here approached me recently, there had been a death in their families and they were asking for compassionate grounds and we worked on it as well. We will work for everyone here. We have formed the government to work for the people. We do not know how to do politics, but we know how to work, and therefore all our political opponents keep abusing me,” he said.
