The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has paved the way to implement Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s plan to transform Delhi into a world-class city. The plan, which aims to beautify and regularly clean 1400 km of PWD roads, has been hailed as a significant step towards making Delhi one of the most livable cities in the world. AAP MCD Incharge and MLA Shri Durgesh Pathak stated that the government is taking several measures to ensure that the roads are regularly cleaned and maintained. The government is procuring more than 100 mechanical sweeping machines to clean the roads, along with more than 150 tankers and sprinkler machines that will help wash the roads, railings, trees, and plants regularly. In addition, to reduce air pollution in Delhi, the government is procuring 250 anti-smog guns cum sprinklers. As per the plan, trees and grass will be planted, pruning will be done, and water will be sprinkled on central verges, roads, and footpaths. These measures will not only help in reducing air pollution but will also make the city more aesthetically pleasing.
Shri Durgesh Pathak held a press conference on Tuesday, where he congratulated the citizens of Delhi on this significant positive development. He said, “Delhi will be undergoing a significant transformation, particularly in the upkeep and cleanliness of its PWD roads. In the coming months, you will witness a remarkable improvement on Delhi roads that will feel like magic. What was once a distant dream is now becoming a tangible reality, thanks to a crucial step taken today towards developing Delhi into a world-class city.”
The project will involve regular cleaning, maintenance and third-party monitoring of PWD roads to ensure that they are maintained to the highest standards. To achieve this, more than 100 mechanised sweeping machines, 150 tankers and sprinkler machines, and 250 anti-smog guns and sprinklers are being procured.
Dust and dirt on trees and plants near the roads will be cleaned on a daily basis with water, and the footpaths will be mechanically swept regularly, including the use of deep scrubbing machines for stubborn dirt that cannot be removed with a regular broom. Additionally, the plan includes the lifting and removal of garbage from various locations and the cleaning and washing of railings on both sides of the roads. These measures will greatly enhance the cleanliness and appearance of the roadside areas.
The project will also address the issue of posters and hoardings put up on PWD roads, which mar the aesthetic beauty of Delhi. Under this project, such posters and hoardings will be removed on a daily basis. Additionally, the green areas, near the central verges and the footpaths will be maintained by planting trees and grass and arranging for regular cleaning, nurturing, and maintenance by gardeners.
To ensure the success of the project, a third party will monitor all the work to ensure that the highest standards of maintenance are being met, and residents of Delhi will also be involved to contribute to the success of the project.
Shri Durgesh Pathak expressed his gratitude to Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal for his ambitious vision and determined efforts towards this project. He also thanked the MCD councillors, officials, and all stakeholders involved.
Responding to a question by the media on the MCD House meeting held earlier in the day, Shri Durgesh Pathak expressed his disappointment with the continuously destructive role that the BJP has played in Delhi. He stated that the BJP’s councillors did not allow the Leader of the MCD House to read the condolence motion about the 11 soldiers martyred in the recent IED blast in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. He said that it was unfortunate, tragic, and “a first in the history of the MCD.”
