Delhi Home Minister Shri Kailash Gahlot made an important visit to Tihar Jail today. During his visit, he inaugurated a new electronic roti-making machine at Jail no 1, which can produce 1000 rotis per hour. This new machine will greatly benefit the prison’s kitchen staff and inmates.
In addition to the electronic roti-making machine, the Home Minister also inaugurated a Geriatric Fitness Centre at jail no 2. This centre is specially designed for old age inmates who can now receive fitness training with equipment under the supervision of a trained trainer. The facility will help elderly inmates strengthen their muscles, enhance flexibility and ultimately improve their fitness levels. It is the first of its kind in India and is a significant step towards providing better care for elderly inmates.
In a statement, Shri Kailash Gahlot said “I visited Tihar Jail, the largest prison complex in Asia, as part of Delhi government’s ongoing efforts to improve prison conditions in Delhi. During my visit, I had the honor of inaugurating a new electronic roti-making machine. This new machine is a significant addition to the prison’s kitchen. It is yet another step towards ensuring that inmates receive nutritious and adequate meals. Also, the start of the Geriatric Fitness Centre at Tihar Jail will help elderly inmates improve their fitness levels. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi government is committed to prison reform, and our visit to Tihar Jail is yet another step towards improving prison conditions and ensuring that inmates are given the necessary facilities to reform themselves. We believe that every individual has the potential to reform, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the necessary resources to do so. I am confident that with the collective efforts of our government, prison authorities, and citizens, we can create a more just and equitable society.”
During his visit, he also took the opportunity to tour the Jail’s factory including its weaving, carpentry, baking, spinning, painting, namkeen, paper and mustard oil units. He also visited the multi-purpose hall at Tihar Jail. Shri Kailash Gahlot expressed his admiration for the high-quality work being done by the inmates and praised the prison authorities for their efforts in rehabilitating prisoners.
The Home Minister’s visit to Tihar Jail is part of the Kejriwal government’s ongoing efforts to improve the conditions of prisons in Delhi and ensure that inmates are given the necessary facilities to reform themselves. Delhi government’s commitment to prison reform is commendable, and his visit to Tihar Jail is a positive step in this direction.
