Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi took stock of the working of South Zone of MCD. The meeting was attended by the Leader of the House in MCD Shri Mukesh Goel, Zonal Councillors, Additional Commissioner, South Zone Shri Randhir Sahay, Deputy Commissioner, South Zone Ms. Angel Bhati and heads of various departments in the South Delhi zone. Dr. Oberoi stressed on the need of effective coordination and regular interaction between the MCD officials and councillors for betterment of civic amenities in all wards.
During the meeting, MCD Councillors of various wards apprised the Mayor about the status of cleanliness, upkeep of Parks and condition of schools in their respective wards.
She reiterated the fact that both the councillors and MCD officials are both accountable to the citizens. She said that both councillors and officials should work in synergy to bring for betterment of civic amenities in the city. The Mayor stated that officials should ensure that ward inspection, carried out by Senior MCD officials and local councillors, should be well planned and coordinated so as to benefit maximum people.
During the meeting, Local councillors expressed their concerns regarding cleanliness particularly lack of garbage collection tippers for door-to-door garbage collections and overburdened dhalaos fully filled with garbage. Due to laxity of cleanliness staff, the garbage is scattered right next to people’s houses, causing difficulty in movement of people, they stated. “Such an approach needs to be corrected as our aim is to make Delhi – a Dhalao free city,” she stated.
The councillors informed the Mayor about the lack of school infrastructure, shortage of staff and dilapidated condition of school buildings. Taking note of the such condition, the Mayor directed the education department officials to ensure revamp of such schools on priority basis. She said, “Safety and security of the school children is our top-most priority. We will replicate the Delhi Government model in schools.”
The parks in some wards were found short of basic machines, while there were complaints about lightning in parks. Dr Oberoi hoped that all pending issues in wards of the south zone would be resolved as per her directions and informed that she would again review the issues after a month.
