Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia held a review meeting with the core-development team of the Kejriwal Government’s flagship program Deshbhakti Curriculum. The meeting was held to ensure better implementation of the Deshbhakti Curriculum in the government schools of Delhi and prepare a future blueprint for the curriculum. Deshbhakti Curriculum is a unique curriculum designed by the Delhi government’s Education Department to instil the spirit of patriotism and nationhood among every child studying in the Delhi government schools. Instead of limiting the students’ thoughts to a few people who dedicated themselves to the nation, this curriculum gives an opportunity to children to meet people in their surroundings and help them understand how different people contribute to the progress of the nation.

Notably, the Deshbhakti Curriculum was launched by Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on 28th September 2021 at Chhatrasal Stadium with an aim to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among children and prepare them as responsible citizens. It has been nearly two years and the curriculum has already started showing a positive impact on students.

So far, more than 18 lakh children from class nursery to 12th have been part of the Deshbhakti Curriculum in all Delhi Government Schools. Further, the syllabus from class nursery to 12th has been rolled out and more than 2000 teachers have been trained for the course. Further, 36,000 teachers have been designated by the education department for the curriculum.

Speaking about the curriculum, Shri Manish Sisodia said that the whole purpose of it is to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the students studying in our schools and prepare them to be proud Indians. He added that it also aims to teach children to raise their voices against any wrong and injustice with people in their surroundings. The students should have the feeling that being an Indian it is their responsibility to respond to the needs of the society.

The Deputy Chief Minister further said that under the leadership of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the aim with which this curriculum was started has started giving positive results. The aim of this curriculum is that every child should take pride in being an Indian and become a staunch patriot. They should be ready to take the responsibility of solving the problems of the country on their shoulders instead of running away from them.

Future plans of the Education Department regarding Deshbhakti Curriculum include a new Teacher’s Manual for Grades 6-12 and training of teachers associated with the Deshbhakti Curriculum, the orientation of school heads and training of mentor teachers. Also, training of more than 10,000 teachers will be organised soon and capacity building of the core team and master trainers will be conducted. There are also plans to create a data collection and monitoring system for better implementation of curriculum and impact study. “I am glad that now this change is visible in our children. They have started taking responsibility for issues in society and look forward to finding solutions for them,” said Shri Manish Sisodia.
