Apart from the 125 seats reserved for women, AAP also fields women candidates on 13 other seats, a total of 55.2 per cent of seats have women candidates
These women candidates have emerged as the first choice of the public in the survey that was held by AAP in these general seat wards of the MCD

In a step that truly reflects the Aam Aadmi Party’s intention to empower women in Delhi, the party has fielded women candidates on non-reserved (unreserved) seats in the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. Out of 250 seats in the MCD, 125 seats are reserved for women, but AAP has given tickets to women in 13 general seats in addition to the reserved seats. With this, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has given an opportunity to women in about 55.2 percent seats, far greater than the 50 percent reserved seats for women as mandated by the Election Commission. The party further said that these women have emerged as the first choice of the public in the survey conducted by the onground workers of the organization. Better connection with the people of the area and active participation on issues of public interest was a plus point for these women who got tickets on general seats. On the other hand, most of the workers belonging to the ordinary families have been given tickets on the basis of their merit. Also, AAP has set an example by giving a ticket to a transgender candidate Bobby Kinnar in Ward 43 Sultanpuri-A seat. Further, AAP has given ticket to 218 volunteers of the party. The party has given importance to young faces and therefore there are several candidates within the age group of 23-24 who have been given the opportunity to fight the MCD polls.
When it comes to the selection of candidates for the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Aam Aadmi Party has taken special care in terms of the issue of women empowerment. The party believes that giving opportunities to women candidates is the best way to enable women empowerment in the society. Therefore, in the survey that was undertaken by AAP, the party took into account the number of women contenders for tickets in general seats and the image of those claimant women among the public? The survey came to know about the public opinion about those women, how much the women claimants have a public connection and how vocally these claimants raise the issues of public interest. It was in this survey that these 13 women went on to be the frontrunner in the general seats in which they were contesting. They had got more points from the public than another other candidate in their area. These women contenders, who have emerged as popular leaders, impressed all the members in the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting that was held on Friday and Saturday under the chairmanship of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Being a general seat, there was a lot of pressure to give tickets to men, yet keeping the pressure aside, the PAC decided to give tickets to these women who emerged as popular leaders. The purpose behind this was that this would strengthen women empowerment. Also, women engaged in honest social service will be encouraged to enter politics.
Most candidates are from ordinary households
Aam Aadmi Party has always believed in raising the voice of the common man. In a way, the Aam Aadmi Party has become a symbol of the common man. Therefore, in ticket distribution, the party has always given importance to merit rather than family background and in elections, boys and girls from ordinary households have been given importance. Taking forward this practice, AAP has given tickets to boys and girls from ordinary households in the MCD elections and that too on the basis of merit. There are many candidates whose financial condition within their family is not very good, yet they have been given a ticket, so that they can move ahead and win the election and inspire others.
Young faces get attention in AAP
Aam Aadmi Party has always given importance to young faces for the selection of candidates, and this time around there are some candidates that are as young as 23-24 years old. Shivani Chauhan, who will be fighting the polls from Ward No 175 in Kalkaji on a General Women’s seat is the youngest candidate with her age between 23 and 24 years. Shivani Chauhan (23) is a fashion designer. She said that she has been actively participating in social work. She further said that as she was very young, she had little hope of getting a ticket, but she is incredibly happy that AAP has given her this opportunity. It will also inspire other youngsters to come forward and participate in the poll process, she says. At the same time, Shivani Panchal, MSc in Maths from DTU, has got a ticket from Ward No 223 of Rohtas Nagar. She is only 24 years old. She said that this is a huge opportunity for her and she will try her best to live up to the opportunity that the party has given her. Similarly, the party has given opportunities to many other young faces, both men and women.
AAP sets an example by giving ticket to Bobby Kinnar
Bobby Kinnar is the only third gender candidate in Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, whom Aam Aadmi Party has given an opportunity to do social service through politics. Bobby Kinnar has been given ticket from Ward 43 Sultanpuri-A on the seat reserved for SC women. Aam Aadmi Party has become the first party to give ticket to a transgender candidate in the MCD elections.
Thanking AAP’s National Convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal, Bobby Kinnar said, “This is a big deal for me. I will come true to the expectations of Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Our issue is the cleanliness of Delhi. If I go on to win, I will first get the work of cleanliness done in my ward. They say that I am from a very ordinary family. I don’t have money to contest election, but the public said that I should contest. The public is fighting my election together with me and we will win the election with the blessings of the public. I want that like me, the people of my community should also move forward and take part in politics. For the last 15 years, I am doing social work by staying among the public. I will appeal to the public that promise them that after winning the election, I will be able to do social work more strongly.”
- Indu Sharma, candidate from General seat of Ward 174 Srinivaspuri said, “This is a very big opportunity for me. I did not expect it. I did not think I would get a ticket from a general seat, as there were enough male contenders too, but the party reposed faith in me. This is a big message towards women empowerment.”
- Captain Shalini, candidate from the General seat of Ward 121 Dwarka A said, “Under the leadership of Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party has always been giving opportunities to women to move forward. With this expectation, I had applied for the ticket despite this being a general seat. Parties often field male candidates on general seats, but the AAP leadership has done the work of motivating other women by trusting me.”

AAP government’s support for women empowerment
The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has always supported women empowerment. In order to give equal participation to women, the Delhi government has made travel of women absolutely free in government buses. There are special ‘Pink Tickets’ for women. When women travel in buses, they are given this ticket. On this ticket, women can travel anywhere in Delhi for free. Thousands of women travel in buses daily. Ever since this scheme was launched, the number of women travelling in Delhi’s buses has increased continuously. At present, about 32 per cent of the total passengers travelling in the elderly age group are women. The reason for the increase in the number of women in buses is that marshals are deployed in every bus for their safety. Due to this, women consider it safest to travel in buses. Apart from this, with the aim of promoting women empowerment in the transport department, many relaxations have been provided in the recruitment of bus drivers. Along with this, now women bus drivers are also being appointed. At present, 11 women are operating buses on the roads of Delhi.

आम आदमी पार्टी ने ‘महिला सशक्तिकरण’ को धार देने के इरादे से दिल्ली नगर निगम चुनाव में नॉन रिजर्व (अनारक्षित) सीटों पर भी महिला उम्मीदवारों को मैदान में उतारा है। एमसीडी की 250 सीटों में से 125 सीटें महिलाओं के लिए आरक्षित हैं, लेकिन “आप” ने आरक्षित सीटों के अलावा भी 13 सामान्य सीटों पर महिलाओं को टिकट दिया है। इस तरह “आप” ने चुनाव आयोग से महिलाओं के लिए आरक्षित 50 फीसद से अधिक करीब 55.2 फीसद सीट पर महिलाओं को मौका दिया है। सर्वे में सामान्य सीट पर पहली पसंद बनकर महिलाएं उभरी थी। जनता की भावनाओं के अनुरूप “आप” ने सामान्य सीट पर महिला उम्मीदवार दिया है। सामान्य सीटों पर टिकट पाने वाली इन महिलाओं के लिए क्षेत्र की जनता से बेहतर जुड़ाव और जनहित के मुद्दों पर सक्रिय भागीदारी प्लस प्वाइंट रहा। वहीं,ज्यादातर सामान्य परिवार से ताल्लुक रखने वाले कार्यकर्ताओं को उनकी योग्यता के आधार टिकट दिया गया है। साथ ही, वार्ड 43 सुल्तानपुरी-ए एससी महिला के लिए आरक्षित सीट पर बॉबी किन्नर को टिकट देकर “आप” ने एक नजीर पेश की है। “आप” ने पार्टी के 218 वालेंटियर को टिकट दिया है। पार्टी ने युवा चेहरों को महत्व दिया गया है, जिसमे 23-24 साल के युवाओं को भी अवसर मिला है।
आम आदमी पार्टी ने दिल्ली नगर निगम (एमसीडी) के चुनाव के लिए प्रत्याशियों के चयन में महिला सशक्तिकरण का विशेष ख्याल रखा है। पार्टी का मानना है कि महिला सशक्तिकरण के लिए महिलाओं को अवसर दिया जाना चाहिए। लिहाजा, पार्टी ने एमसीडी का टिकट मांगने वाले “आप” संगठन के कार्यकर्ताओं के सर्वे में इस बात पर भी ध्यान दिया कि सामान्य सीटों पर कितनी महिलाएं टिकट की दावेदार हैं और उन दावेदार महिलाओं की जनता के बीच छवि कैसी है? सर्वे में उन महिला दावेदारों के बारे जनता की राय जानी गई कि दावेदारी करने वाली महिलाओं की जनता से कितना जुड़ाव है और जनहित के मुद्दों को कितनी मुखर तरीके जनता की आवाज उठाती हैं। सर्वे में जनता ने सामान्य सीटों पर टिकट पाने वाली इन 13 महिलाओं को अपनी पहली पसंद बताया है। जनता ने इन महिला दावेदारों को पुरुष दावेदारों से अधिक प्वाइंट दिए हैं। जनप्रिय नेता के रूप में उभरी इन महिला दावेदारों ने “आप” के राष्ट्रीय संयोजक अरविंद केजरीवाल की अध्यक्षता में शुक्रवार और शनिवार को हुई पॉलिटिकल अफेयर्स कमिटी (पीएसी) की बैठक में सभी सदस्यों को प्रभावित किया। सामान्य सीट होने के कारण पुरुषों को टिकट देने का काफी दवाब अवश्य था, फिर भी पीएसी ने दबावों को एक तरफ रखने हुए जनप्रिय नेता के तौर पर उभारों इन महिलाओं को टिकट देने का निर्णय लिया। इसके पीछे उद्देश्य यह रहा कि इससे महिला सशक्तिकरण को मजबूती मिलेगी। साथ ही, ईमानदारी से समाज सेवा में लगी महिलाओं का राजनीति में प्रवेश को बढ़ावा मिलेगा।
ज्यादातर सामान्य घरों से हैं उम्मीदवार
आम आदमी पार्टी हमेशा से आम आदमी की आवाज उठाती रही है। आम आदमी पार्टी एक तरह से आम आदमी का प्रतीक बन चुकी है। इसलिए टिकट बंटवारे में पार्टी ने हमेशा पारिवारिक पृष्ठभूमि की बजाय योग्यता को महत्व दिया है और चुनाव में सामान्य घरों के लड़कों – लड़कियों को महत्व दिया है। बशर्ते कि दावेदारी करने वाला योग्य हो। इसी परिपाटी को आगे बढ़ाते हुए “आप” ने योग्यता को आधार बनाते हुए ज्यादातर सामान्य घरों को लड़के – लड़कियों को एमसीडी चुनाव में टिकट दिया है। कई उम्मीदवार ऐसे हैं, जिनकी पारिवारिक आर्थिक स्थिति बहुत अच्छी नहीं है, फिर भी उनको वरीयता देते हुए टिकट दिया गया है, ताकि वे आगे बढ़ सकें और चुनाव जीत कर दूसरों को प्रेरित कर सकें।
“आप” में युवा चेहरों को मिली तवज्जों
आम आदमी पार्टी ने प्रत्याशियों के चयन में युवा चेहरों को महत्व दिया है। जिसमे कई युवा उम्मीदवार 23-24 साल के हैं।वार्ड 175 कालका जी से सामान्य महिला सीट से शिवानी चौहान सबसे कम उम्र की उम्मीदवार हैं। उनकी उम्र 23-24 के बीच हैं। उनका कहना है कि मैं सामाजिक कार्यों में बढ़चढ़ कर हिस्सा लेती रही हूं। मेरी उम्र अभी बहुत कम है, इसलिए मैं मुझे बहुत कम उम्मीद थी कि टिकट मिलेगा, लेकिन टिकट मिल गया। इससे मेरी जैसी अन्य युवाओं को आगे आने की प्रेरणा मिलेगी। वहीं, रोहतास नगर वार्ड 223 से शिवानी पांचाल को टिकट मिला है। वो केवल 24 साल की है। उनका कहना है कि यह उनके लिए बड़ी बात है। कम उम्र होने बाद भी पार्टी ने भरोसा जताया है। मैं पार्टी की उम्मीदों पर खरा उतरने की पूरी कोशिश करूंगी। इसी तरह, पार्टी ने कई अन्य युवा चेहरों को मौका दिया हैं, जिनमे महिला एवं पुरुष दोनों शामिल हैं।
“आप” ने बॉबी किन्नर को टिकट देकर पेश की नजीर
दिल्ली नगर निगम के चुनाव में बॉबी किन्नर एकमात्र थर्ड जेंडर उम्मीवदार हैं, जिन्हे आम आदमी पार्टी ने राजनीति के जरिए समाज सेवा करने का अवसर दिया है। बॉबी किन्नर को वार्ड 43 सुल्तानपुरी-ए से एससी महिला के लिए आरक्षित सीट पर टिकट दिया गया है। एमसीडी चुनाव में किसी किन्नर को टिकट देने वाली आम आदमी पार्टी पहली पार्टी बना गई है।
बॉबी किन्नर ने “आप” के राष्ट्रीय संयोजक अरविंद केजरीवाल का धन्यवाद देते हुए कहा कि यह मेरे लिए बहुत बड़ी बात है। मैं अरविंद केजरीवाल जी की उम्मीदों पर बिलकुल खरी उतरूंगी। हमारा मुद्दा दिल्ली की साफ सफाई है। मैं जीत कर आऊंगी तो अपने वार्ड में सबसे पहले साफ सफाई का काम कराऊंगी। उनका कहना है कि मैं बहुत सामान्य परिवार से हूं। मेरे पास चुनाव लड़ने के लिए पैसे नहीं हैं, लेकिन जनता ने कहा कि मैं चुनाव लड़ू। मेरा चुनाव जनता मिल कर लड़ रही है और जनता के आशीर्वाद से चुनाव जीतूंगी। मैं चाहती हूं कि मेरी तरह ही मेरे समाज के लोग भी आगे बढ़ें और राजनीति में बढ़चढ़ कर हिस्सा लें। मैं पिछले 15 साल से जनता के बीच रहकर सामाजिक कार्य कर रही हूं। मैं जानता से अपील कर रही हूं कि जितने के बाद और मजबूती से सामाजिक कार्य कर सकूंगी।
1- वार्ड 174 श्रीनिवासपुरी की सामान्य सीट से प्रत्याशी इंदु शर्मा का कहना है कि यह मेरे लिए अप्रत्याशित है। मुझे उम्मीद नहीं थी कि सामान्य सीट से उनको टिकट मिल पाएगा, क्योंकि पुरुष दावेदार भी काफी थे, लेकिन पार्टी ने मुझ पर भरोसा जताया। यह महिला सशक्तिकरण की दिशा में बड़ा संदेश है।
2- वार्ड 121 द्वारका ए की सामान्य सीट से प्रत्याशी कैप्टन शालिनी का कहना है कि अरविंद केजरीवाल जी के नेतृत्व में आम आदमी पार्टी हमेशा महिलाओं को आगे बढ़ने का अवसर देती रही है। इसी उम्मीद से मैंने सामान्य सीट होने के बावजूद टिकट के लिए आवेदन किया था। अक्सर पार्टियां सामान्य सीटों पर पुरुष को ही उम्मीदवार बनाती हैं, लेकिन “आप” नेतृत्व ने मुझ पर भरोसा कर बाकी महिलाओं को प्रेरित करने का काम किया है।
3- वार्ड 142 दरियागंज सामान्य सीट से प्रत्याशी सारिका चौधरी का कहना है कि मैं अरविंद केजरीवाल जी और पूरी पार्टी की आभारी हूं कि मुझे समान्य सीट पर चुनाव लड़ने का मौका दिया है। जबकि मेरी जगह किसी पुरुष को भी पार्टी उम्मीदवार बना सकती थी। यह इस बात का प्रमाण है कि “आप” महिला सशक्तिकरण को मजबूती देने का कोई भी मौका नहीं छोड़ती है।

“आप” की सरकार दे रही महिला सशक्तिकरण को मजबूती
दिल्ली में आम आदमी पार्टी की सरकार भी महिला सशक्तिकरण को मजबूती दे रही है। महिलाओं को बराबर की भागीदारी देने के उद्देश्य से दिल्ली सरकार ने सरकारी बसों में महिलाओं का सफर बिल्कुल मुफ्त कर दिया है। महिलाओं के लिए विशेष पिंक टिकट हैं। जब महिलाएं बसों में सफर करती हैं तो उनको यह टिकट दिया जाता है। इस टिकट पर महिलाएं पूरी दिल्ली में कहीं भी मुफ्त सफर कर सकती हैं। रोजाना बसों में हजारों की संख्या में महिलाएं सफर करती हैं। जब से यह योजना शुरू की गई है, तब से दिल्ली की बसों में सफर करने वाली महिलाओं की संख्या लगातार बढ़ी है। वर्तमान में बड़ों में कुल सफर करने वाले यात्रियों में करीब 32 फीसद महिलाएं सफर कर रही हैं। बसों में महिलाओं की संख्या बढ़ने का कारण यह भी है कि उनकी सुरक्षा के लिए हर बस में मार्शल तैनात हैं। इससे महिलाएं बसों में सफर करना सबसे सुरक्षित मानती हैं। इसके अल्वा, परिवहन विभाग में महिला सशक्तिकरण को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से बस ड्राइवर की भर्ती में कई छूट प्रदान की है। साथ ही अब महिला बस ड्राइवर की नियुक्ति भी की जा रही है। वर्तमान में तिल्ली की सड़कों पर 11 महिलाएं बसों का संचालन कर रही हैं।
