Delhi government ready with Swaminathan Committee recommendations

Delhi Government has conceptualizedthe implementation of recommendations of the report of Swaminathan Committee on farmers i.e. “MSP should be at least 50% more than the weighted average cost of production”  under its proposed scheme, “Mukhya Mantri KisanMitra Yojna” for the benefit of farmers of Delhi.

In order to achieve this endeavour of the Delhi government, an Agricultutrre Conference was convened under the Chairmanship of the Development Minister Mr Gopal Rai, at the Delhi Secretariat on 29thJanuary.

Delegates  comprising officers of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, Food Corporation of India,ICAR-Indian Agriculture Research Institute, Government of Telangana, Delhi Government, Planning Department, Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), Development Department and farmers representatives from Delhi participated in the conference.

As per the deliberations held with the respective stakeholders in the Conference, subsequently Kisan Jan Sunwai were also held on 5thFebruary at New Anaj Mandi, Narela and on 7th at New Anaj Mandi, Najafgarh .
Development Minister has discussedthe modalities of Delhi MSP implementation with the farmers, tenant farmers as well as Wheat andPaddy  traders.
Thereafter, suggestions from thefarmers were invited throughadvertisements in the leadingnewspapers of Delhi. The public/farmers have also considered the Delhi government concept.
Based on all relevant factors and views, Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Delhi in respect of the Wheat and Paddy crops have been decided, in view of the  higher production cost in  Delhi as  compared to other States.

Mr Gopal Rai has directed the Development Department to prepare a Cabinet Note to be put up before the Cabinet so as to implement the new scheme “Mukhyamantri Kisan Mitra Yojna” for the welfare of farmers of Delhi.
