Delhi govt to present its health model before WHO, World bank & other major organisations

Health Minister Mr Satyendar Jain will present the Delhi government’s health model, particularly the world acclaimed Mohalla Clinics concept, at a three-day international conference beginning in Bangkok (Thailand) on Wednesday, being jointly organised by the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the Rockefeller Foundation, in association with the Government of Thailand.

The Minister will be sharing dias with Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, Former Prime Minister of Norway and Former Director General of the WorldHealth Organization.

Nobel laureate and noted economist Dr Amartya Sen will also be briefed during the conference about the initiatives taken by the Delhi government for the improvement of health sector, particularly the government’s emphasis on affordable health care facilities for all.

The panel shall be moderated by Mr Robert Yates, Senior Fellow, Chatham House, United Kingdom.

Other notable personalities attending the conference include Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Special Advisor to Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Ms Risa Hontiveros, Senator of Philippines, Mr. Olusegun Mimiko, Governor, Ondo State, Nigeria, Dr. Mirai Chatterjee, Director, SEWA, India and Mr. Naoko Yamamoto, Assistant Minister for Global Health, Japan. The Minister shall also engage with Secretary General of National Healthsecurity office, Thailand on matter concerning urban health.

The conference is titled – Prince Mahidol Award Conference, on the subject of Political Strategies to tackle Social Exclusion and Improve Health.

The conference panel is constituted on the premise that tackling social exclusion and reducing inequalities in society is an inherently political process which often meets with resistance from privileged groups benefiting from the status quo.

The panellists will share their experiences and views on strategies that have been adopted in tackling social exclusion as a way to improve the healthof disadvantaged and marginalised groups.

The Prince Mahidol Award Conference is an annual event focusing on policy-related public health issues of global significance. It is hosted by the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation, the Royal Thai Government and other global partners including World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

The conference brings together leading public health leaders and stakeholders from around the world to discuss high priority global health issues, summarize findings and propose concrete solutions and recommendations.

Being invited to this conference is an endorsement of the work being done by Delhi Government towards tackling social exclusion and providing quality affordable health care to the citizens of Delhi. The Conference acknowledges the initiatives taken by the Delhi Government and seeks to share the experience of Health Minister of Delhi on a global platform where his vision may light up similar reforms in other countries and be a source of inspiration to the international audience.
