  • Delhi govt initiates workshops for 24,000 school teachers in summer vacation

Delhi government has initiated the first ever process of conducting workshops for 24,000 government school teachers.

This is a one-of-a-kind exercise where 24,000 teachers – over the period of one month – would be engaged in a process of creating lesson plans, teaching material and activities to make the curriculum more interesting and engaging

The material would be created by these Government school teachers themselves based on their teaching experiences.

The exercise started with the Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Mr. Manish Sisodia sending a voice message to all the teachers to work to make regular schools as interesting like the 550 Summer Camps being currently conducted for Class VI students, in which atleast 45,000 students have enrolled.

Launched on 24th May across nine venues, the workshop sessions would go on till June 23, in a batch of four days each. In this period a total of 20,000 teachers will participate in about 500 batches to develop material in Hindi, English, Maths, Science and Social Science subjects. Remaining 4000 teachers will participate in the next round.

The material development exercise would be through mutual discussions and sharing of ideas among each other. This is one of the biggest exercises so far which involves all the teachers to collectively brainstorm and come up with the content and transaction process which is interesting for the child and relates with her context.

The material created by the teachers in these workshops will be printed and used as part of the class process from July 2016 onwards. For the first time the material being used in the classroom, would be designed by the teachers themselves.

The activities during the workshop would be facilitated by the Mentor Teachers (a learning resource group of Delhi Government schools) and Cluster Resource Coordinators under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. In the preparation and during the workshop, the MTs/CRCs are being assisted by lecturer from DIETs and senior lecturers of SCERT. This is a part of the larger efforts by the Government to improve the quality of education in government school.
