The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has already earned itself a reputation for its reforms in government school education. The focus on capacity building of teachers has been a cornerstone of the government’s effort towards making classrooms an environment of learning.

The first batch of government school teachers reached Singapore to undergo training in teaching-learning methodologies at the National Institute of Education (NIE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted pictures of the teachers undergoing training in Singapore. He expressed optimism about the teachers returning to Delhi and contributing to the transformation of government schools.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted saying he expected teachers to become “change agents” on returning to India.

Advisor to the Deputy CM Atishi Marlena also tweeted about the development,”Who could have thought this was possible?”

This is truly a first in the history of India’s government school education administration. The AAP government is investing resources in teachers training like no government before it has. This has set a precedent for all governments across the country.

In the past, a batch of Delhi government school Principals had been sent to Cambridge University for a  course in School Leadership Development. All Principals are also currently undergoing Leadership Development courses at IIM Ahmedabad in small batches.
